July 25, 2018 – George Scott, Democratic nominee for Congress in the 10th Congressional District, has announced he has been endorsed by the nationwide International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) as well as the IOUE Local 542, which represent over 6,000 individuals and workers within our local communities. Throughout his campaign for Congress, George has been a strong proponent of allowing more of our workforce to unionize. Inevitably, this will bring about better wages and working conditions within our local communities.
“I am honored and humbled to have received the IUOE’s endorsement as our campaign continues to gain grassroots momentum. I will continue to stand with our union brothers and sisters to make sure working families are not forgotten in this new global economy,” he said.
Founded in 1896, the IUOE is a diversified trade union that represents operating engineers who work as heavy equipment operators, mechanics, and surveyors in the construction industry, and stationary engineers, who work in operations and maintenance in building and industrial complexes.
“The IUOE has been a driving force for U.S. commerce and our overall economy in the private and public sectors for decades. Their work and mission creates our infrastructure that moves our economy forward. From bridges to highways to pipelines, the IUOE and its members are the backbone of American progress. That’s why I stand alongside the IUOE,” said George Scott.
“We know that George is the proven progressive fighter for the values of working families, and that’s why we support his candidacy,” said Robert Heenan, Business Manager & General Vice President for IUOE Local 542.
As George meets with citizens throughout the 10th Congressional District, he continues to tout his support for expanding skilled training, rigorous workplace protections, and retirement security for middle-class working families. He added, “The labor unions that support working families are an important part of our region’s history, and a crucial component of our future as we seek to bring new and sustainable jobs to our communities.”
