How To Improve Your College Writing Skills?

College is that time of year when you begin to focus on your college writing skills. During this time, your college application will come in the mail and you must get started on writing your own essay, response to a challenge, or essay concerning any topic you may be considering for college. In order to improve your college writing skills, you must practice and practice some more. If you have never written an essay before, you may want to start out with an essay for college because it is a good place to start and most colleges have essay requirements.

Most people who have never written a college assignment have no idea what they should be writing about, so how can they expect to get anywhere in this type of course? They have to know what they are getting into and also know what to do in order to get where they need to go. When you go to college, writing skills are required in order to do well and this is what many students lack. If you take some time to learn some college writing skills, then you will see that you will be able to succeed.

1. Pick out a subject for your college essay

It does not have to be the most important subject, but it should be something that you are passionate about and something you know something about. For instance, if you have taken art college, you may want to write on the importance of art. Then once you have some college writing subjects picked out, you can begin to develop your skills.

2. Write every day

The worst thing that you can do is wait around for your grades or your teacher’s homework to come in so that you can write. You must write in order to succeed in college. Once you have completed your essays and other writing, you can then evaluate whether or not your college writing abilities need further development.

3. Make sure that you keep your word count to a minimum

When you get to college, you will inevitably have to write an essay or two for each assignment that you have for college. The more word count that you have, the better your chances of being able to write a crisp, well-structured paper. Word count is very important, even in college. If you do not have a good word count each day, then you could find yourself putting a lot of unnecessary stress on yourself.

Now that you understand these tips, you will be able to develop and improve your college writing skills. In fact, you will probably find that you have developed your skills faster than you ever thought possible. As a matter of fact, you may even be surprised at how much better your papers are now! So go ahead, and enjoy developing your college writing skills.

Republican, Former PA State Rep. Steve Nickol Endorses George Scott for Congress

Lawmaker who donated to Perry’s campaign in 2012 now blasts incumbent as “cold-hearted ultra-conservative”

October 9–York, PA. The following endorsement by Steve Nickol was published today in the York Daily Record.

###

For 18 years, I represented parts of York County in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as an elected Republican. For a portion of that time, I served with Scott Perry. We were both members of the Republican Caucus. When Mr. Perry decided to run for Congress in 2012, I donated to his campaign.

Today, I am proud to announce my endorsement of George Scott, Mr. Perry’s opponent, in the race for Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional District.

Since leaving office, I have generally remained silent on political matters. I have not publicly endorsed candidates. This race is different. In this race, voters have a clear choice. I live in the newly drawn 10th District. I believe that, with new lines, should come new representation—and I want George Scott to be my congressman.

When I supported Mr. Perry’s run for Congress in 2012, I did so in hopes that he would represent South Central Pennsylvania in the tradition of former representatives Bill Goodling and Todd Platts. I hoped that he would be a bipartisan champion who worked in the best interest of his constituents. Since that time, I have watched in disappointment as Mr. Perry has repeatedly aligned himself with the Freedom Caucus, the most hyper-partisan faction in Congress.

When the U.S. House passed Medicare in 1965, a majority of Democrats and Republicans supported it. In 2014, Mr. Perry voted for a budget resolution that contained a proposal to privatize Medicare. The National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare stated that the plan “would end traditional Medicare, make it harder for seniors to choose their own doctors, and increase health care costs for both current and future retirees.” Rep. Platts voted against a similar proposal in 2012.

Renewing the Violence against Women Act is a historically bipartisan measure that was supported by both Rep. Goodling and Rep. Platts during their respective times in office. In 2013, Mr. Perry voted against renewing the Violence against Women ActOn Mother’s Day of 2017, Mr. Perry announced that he was opposed to classifying maternal care as an essential health benefit for insurance purposes, as required under existing law, because he was personally finished having children.

Large majorities of Democrats, Republicans, and independents support requiring health insurance companies to provide coverage for people with pre-existing conditions, as is the case under current law. While many Republicans favored a “repeal and replace” strategy with respect to the Affordable Care Act, Mr. Perry co-sponsored and voted for two bills that would have repealed the ACA entirely and not replaced it with anything. In doing so, Mr. Perry voted to allow insurance companies to deny coverage to people with pre-existing conditions, first in 2013 and again in 2015.

Mr. Perry has failed to demonstrate bipartisanship on these critically important issues of public policy, purportedly in the name of “conservatism.” As a former elected Republican, I take great issue with this characterization. These policy positions are not conservative. They are cold-hearted.

Perhaps even more troubling is Mr. Perry’s penchant for conspiracy theories and making statements that defy clearly established facts.

After last year’s tragic mass shooting in Las Vegas, Mr. Perry alleged that ISIS was responsible for the attack even though law enforcement authorities had concluded that the shooter was an Iowa-born man with no ISIS connection. On national television, he erroneously stated that no one was dying in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. During a town hall event in 2017, he incorrectly claimed that trees cause pollution.

Mr. Perry’s actions and words on these issues are not conservative. They are damaging to reasonable public discourse. Mr. Perry spends too much time promoting baseless conspiracy theories and Freedom Caucus hyper-partisanship and too little time addressing the real challenges that people are facing every day. Certain policy issues should transcend partisan division.

Now locked in a close race, Mr. Perry has recently decided to start claiming that he is a supporter of health care protections, seniors and bipartisanship. Do not be fooled by this last-minute political expediency. His voting record and past public comments are clearly established facts.

George Scott understands the need for bipartisan solutions. He has spent a lifetime in public service as a battalion commander in the U.S. Army and as a Lutheran pastor in his local community. He is a leader who has solved vital problems for decades.

George is a reformer and an independent voice who cannot be bought. Like Rep. Platts before him, George does not accept a cent of corporate PAC money. In Congress, his first and only loyalty will be to the voters of the 10th District.

I support George Scott wholeheartedly. He has the integrity and compassion to be a champion for the people of the 10th District.

Political Education For Students

Political education is the systematic approach to education that promotes critical thinking and promotes respect for different political systems. It includes both classroom instruction and non-curricular activities. The emphasis is on imparting fundamental political and historical knowledge, especially with special attention to local, national, and international developments. Such information serves to inform citizens, improve political decision making, enhance understanding of social issues, increase understanding of cultural differences, and build a better nation.

Civic and political education to help people to value human rights, pursue economic prosperity, participate actively in political decision-making, protect and defend the welfare and interests of their fellow citizens, understand and meet the needs of the diverse populations, and develop and practice democratic principles and practices. It also provides citizens with the skills necessary for civic engagement and the ability to critically think and choose. These include basic reading, writing, listening, counting, and reasoning. There are a number of facets of political education that constitute the study of citizenship. These include citizenship studies, citizenship development, citizenship studies programs, mass media, politics and public policy, government, and history of revolutions.

Educational programs on civic education

One such school is the School of International Studies at the School of Public Administration and Social Service of New York University. In its course curriculum are the skills necessary for promoting and practicing democracy. They include political science, economics, history, sociology, philosophy, psychology, communications and other similar areas.

The first task of political education is to equip students with the basic knowledge about constitutional system and basic political system of a country. The program also covers the institutions of political parties, political culture, public policies, leadership, political power, women’s rights, freedom, and diplomacy. In addition, the program also provides knowledge on constitutional amendments, fundamental laws, international law, civil society, media, nonprofit organizations, business, technology, nonprofits, and political representation.

It is important for students to learn how to identify and analyze the various forms of political cultures and ideologies prevalent in different societies and countries. They learn to develop a critical thinking skill to identify and oppose political corruption, and corruption at both the national and state level. They also learn how to develop political ideas and organizing principles that can be used by local communities as well as by political parties in their effort to promote the common good.

The second component of the program is to equip students with political decision making skills. They learn how to canvass, vote, complain, lobby, publish petitions, draft statements, draft bills and resolutions, join or volunteer in political parties, and run for political offices. They also get to participate in activities that bring about change in political parties or the government. Such activities may include street parties, sit-ins, demonstrations, and strikes or walkouts.

The last two components of the program focus on teaching students the importance of fair elections. They also learn the importance of free and fair elections that do not engage in violence or abuse of power. They also get to know how to conduct research on different political issues such as the environment, health care, migration, poverty, international relations, human rights, labor, and political parties.

Conclusion

Political education helps people understand and appreciate the role of politics in their everyday lives. It also motivates citizens to become active citizens by taking part in the political process and making their voice heard. In fact, most political leaders believe that if more citizens would become active, political corruption would eventually become a thing of the past. It is believed that if only politicians would listen to the regular people and take their demands seriously, politics will never become corrupt again. Politicians can then work to make political education a universal and effective educational program.

Why Students Avoid Online Learning?

How To Create Learning Experiences that Last. There are endless examples of how to create learning experiences that actually work. The great French writer, Victor Hugo, did not learn to write until after years of struggling through grammar school. So how did he get such amazing talent? He studied, and he read.

What is the most important thing to remember when designing a learning system?

It is to keep it simple. People learn best when there is a clear path from A to B. If there are too many steps, or if you have to figure out the right way to get somewhere, you will spend a lot of time trying to figure out what the right thing to do is, rather than actually enjoying what you are doing. If you have too many options, you will be confused and lose your way in the process.

If you can design a system that offers multiple choices, rather than just a few, you will encourage more interest. People like to make things complicated, so give them plenty of options. Don’t make them feel dumb by holding all the answers up to their noses. Just remember that as humans, we do need order and predictability in our lives. If you throw too much freedom and unpredictability into your system, you will likely discourage people from taking you seriously.

Make sure that there are rewards for good behavior. Rewards are the psychological motivation behind most forms of learning. They make us want to repeat the action that brought us reward. If you use a reward system which gives out ice cream coupons for staying on track, people will be motivated to stay on track. You might have to customize your rewards somewhat, but that is okay.

People need to feel like they have some control over the learning process

Sometimes, that control comes in the form of a reward. Give people something to look forward to if they follow your directions. This does not mean that you have to give them chocolate or an ice cream coupon. Rewarding good behavior makes people want to get up to complete the task.

Remember to be honest with yourself about what works and what doesn’t. Don’t be afraid to try new methods and experiment with creative ways of learning. The best method is to never stop trying. Keep your mind open and learn as much as possible. Only then will you realize your full potential.

DAUPHIN COUNTY, PA – VoteVets PAC, a national group of veterans, representing over 550,000 veterans, military families and civilians supporters, is today endorsing George Scott for Congress.

“George Scott is inspiring people of central Pennsylvania, and for good reason.  He’s a man of integrity, strength, and leadership, whose experience and perspective is sorely needed in Washington, right now,” said Patrick Murphy, Iraq War veteran, former Congressman, and VoteVets senior adviser. “George is a man whose life has been about serving others, whether in uniform, or in the church.  That kind of servant-leader is why he will make an extraordinary Congressman. We’re proud to endorse him.”

George Scott Releases Statement on Kavanaugh Nomination

September 29—Harrisburg, PA

It takes great courage for any woman to come forward about sexual assault. What Dr. Blasey Ford did on September 27 was inspiring. As a result, so many women have come forward with their own statements about assaults they endured. We must believe the women that come forward. We must hear them, see them and support them.

These powerful stories put into public view and others shared privately with family and friends, are one way that we can eradicate sexual assault. The voices that speak up are opening the doors to conversations that have previously been silenced out of fear. As a society we must talk about this vital concern, an issue that has been swept under the rug by leaders of all types in our nation for far too long.

I am appreciative that Senators Flake and Coons broke through partisanship to find a way to make sure that everyone who has a statement regarding any potential incident is heard, and for Judge Kavanaugh to have a proper avenue to respond. As a former intelligence officer, I am confident that the FBI will do a thorough investigation of matter and report their findings to the U.S. Senate.

However, during the September 27 hearing, it became evident to me that despite his qualifications, Judge Kavanaugh showed significant volatility and political bias. Earlier in September, he stated that it was important for judges to be impartial and unbiased. Judge Kavanaugh’s emotional responses at the hearing have caused me to question his long-term suitability for the court.

There are too many questions about Judge Kavanaugh’s background and behavior and too much partisan combativeness. He does not have the judicial temperament required to serve on our nation’s highest court.

Our nation, as well as the court system, would benefit if the Trump Administration would withdraw Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination and submit another qualified candidate in his place.

Prominent Republican Retired State Senator Pat Vance Backs George Scott for Congress

HARRISBURG, Nov. 1 – Republicans from across the 10th Congressional District stood side-by-side and in support of George Scott today as the best candidate to serve the needs of Cumberland, Dauphin and York county residents in Congress.

George was also joined by former Republican state lawmaker Steve Nickol, who last month strongly endorsed George for Congress because he has the integrity and compassion to be a champion for the people of the 10th District. Nickol, who served with Scott Perry in the Pennsylvania legislature, previously supported and donated to his campaigns.  (TV ad endorsing George)

In addition, Nickol announced an official endorsement of George Scott by one of the mid-state’s longest-serving state senators, Pat Vance, who retired on Nov. 30, 2016. Vance also previously served with and supported Perry for office.

“Senator Vance served the people of Cumberland County with honor and distinction,” said George. “She was a strong and effective advocate over the years for groups like domestic violence victims, the elderly, and those suffering from disabilities. It is a privilege to receive her endorsement, and it is my hope to follow her example of bipartisanship and civility in Congress.”

The text of the endorsement reads:

“Much thought has been given in making my decision about who should represent our community in the new 10th Congressional District. As a registered nurse long active in healthcare issues, it appears the voices of professionals really need to be heard, especially on the subject of pre-existing conditions. We need to realize that people with pre-existing conditions have them through no fault of their own and it is cruel to allow their health to be affected because they cannot get insurance.

Dropping the requirement that insurance policies cover maternal care is also very troublesome just because someone might not need it personally. It is a benefit to our entire community that pregnant women and the child they are carrying have insurance that provides proper care. It was not too many years ago that many insurance companies refused to cover maternal care because pregnancy was considered a pre-existing condition.

During my time in the legislature, I served on the Health committees, and in the Senate was first Chair of the Aging Committee and later as Chair of the Health and Human Services Committee. I have paid intense attention to all issues involving insurance, aging and healthcare. Words do matter and so do votes cast by our elected officials. Party allegiance cannot take precedence over peoples’ healthcare needs. I was always fond of saying that courage in politics is a very rare commodity – now is the time to stand up for people’s healthcare needs. For that reason, I will be voting for George Scott to represent the new 10th Congressional District.”

George Scott Campaign Issues Statement Refuting Scott Perry’s Response to TV Ad on Pre-existing Conditions

HARRISBURG, Sept. 24—The campaign of George Scott, Democratic nominee in the 10th Congressional District, today released the following statement regarding Rep. Scott Perry’s mischaracterization of his votes to allow insurance companies to deny health care coverage for people with pre-existing conditions.

The votes speak for themselves. It is undeniable that Mr. Perry voted on two occasions to completely repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act without including any replacement health care coverage language.

Mr. Perry’s claim—”When we attempted to repeal Obamacare, the bill that we asked for and the bill that we got mandated, required that pre-existing conditions be covered”—is disingenuous and a complete deflection from his votes to remove protections for millions of people suffering from pre-existing conditions.

In addition, Mr. Perry voted for so-called “repeal and replacement” legislation that would have allowed insurance companies to deliberately price those with pre-existing conditions out of the market.

We’re talking about people with diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, and other conditions, and their Congressman voted to deny them health care coverage. Period.

“Voters want to elect a Congressman who will vote to protect their health care, not re-elect one who votes to make it more expensive and restricted. George Scott is that candidate,” said Jason O’Malley, Campaign Manager for George Scott.

On two separate occasions, [H.R. 596 – Roll Call Vote (February 3, 2015) and H.R 45 – Roll Call Vote (May 16, 2013)], Perry voted to completely repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act without including any replacement language.

International Union of Operating Engineers Endorses George Scott for Congress

July 25, 2018 – George Scott, Democratic nominee for Congress in the 10th Congressional District, has announced he has been endorsed by the nationwide International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) as well as the IOUE Local 542, which represent over 6,000 individuals and workers within our local communities. Throughout his campaign for Congress, George has been a strong proponent of allowing more of our workforce to unionize. Inevitably, this will bring about better wages and working conditions within our local communities.

“I am honored and humbled to have received the IUOE’s endorsement as our campaign continues to gain grassroots momentum. I will continue to stand with our union brothers and sisters to make sure working families are not forgotten in this new global economy,” he said.

Founded in 1896, the IUOE is a diversified trade union that represents operating engineers who work as heavy equipment operators, mechanics, and surveyors in the construction industry, and stationary engineers, who work in operations and maintenance in building and industrial complexes.

“The IUOE has been a driving force for U.S. commerce and our overall economy in the private and public sectors for decades. Their work and mission creates our infrastructure that moves our economy forward. From bridges to highways to pipelines, the IUOE and its members are the backbone of American progress. That’s why I stand alongside the IUOE,” said George Scott.

“We know that George is the proven progressive fighter for the values of working families, and that’s why we support his candidacy,” said Robert Heenan, Business Manager & General Vice President for IUOE Local 542.

As George meets with citizens throughout the 10th Congressional District, he continues to tout his support for expanding skilled training, rigorous workplace protections, and retirement security for middle-class working families. He added, “The labor unions that support working families are an important part of our region’s history, and a crucial component of our future as we seek to bring new and sustainable jobs to our communities.”
